I am a nursing student at Lee College in Baytown and I am interested in specializing in L&D nursing. If anyone has any feedback for me or helpful hints I could really use them. I can't wait until I get where I want to be. I feel like a child who's present is sitting under the Christmas tree.....lol...

I would suggest that you get a job in a hospital on the L&D floor ASAP. It doesn't matter what it is. You could be a ward cleark, or a Nurse's Aid. The important thing is to get your foot in the door. L&D positions are hard to come by. If you're already employed on a unit, you'll be their first choice when a position opens up.

I am involved in hiring L&D nurses. I always look for someone who is interested in that area. Positive body language is important during an interview. I consider attitude and willingness to learn to be as important as experience. More importantly, though, is that I hope you will be willing to follow any path that nursing presents for you. Prior to graduation, I wanted to work in oncology. Four years later, I am in management for a women's center. Try to be flexible and open to all opportunities. I hope you achieve your dream.
