Halo sleep sacks

Our hospital started participating in the Halo Sleep Sack (SIDS prevention) program. We purchase Halos for hospital use and then, at discharge, provide a new unused unopened halo sack for families to take home. (Obviously we also provide SIDS prevention education with this program).

I am seeking solutions to the issue of these hospital-use halos being stolen. We can't keep a stock of halos for hospital use despite trying several different strategies. Asking staff to monitor the halos has not proven to be effective. The likelihood of any advanced theft-prevention alarms being purchased for our unit is nil. Any possible solutions out there?

Why not just use a new one per patient & send it home with patient/family. Rather than a "Hospital use" sack and give a new one to family. Many know that most of what comes in to a hospital room is sent home with the patient or discarded (diapers, wipes, toiletries, etc)

We ended up getting rid of them because they could cause burns when the baby was left under the warmer. The zippers became hot. Also.. the theft. When they were gone, they just didn't replace them.

I would use ONE per family and let them know ahead of time that the halo will be sent home with them at discharge.

If you don't mind my asking....apart from the danger of metal pieces getting hot, why were babies under the warmer with clothes on?
