Going from telemetry to L & D

I recently moved from being a telemetry nurse for 4 years to a L & D nurse. I came right out of school onto a telemetry floor. Its all I know. I moved to a new city and thought it was time for a change and the hospital im at now was willing to train. Its been 3 weeks and Im not sure I like it. I dont know if its because its different and foreign to me or because its not my thing. I miss the "older" patient population i cared for in telemetry and the familiarity of it all. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

if u know its not for you, you should look for another job. its very expensive to train a new l&d nurse and if you werent commited to that field i think it would be unfair to waste the money and the time. also, so many nurses DO want to work in that field, so an oppurtunity for them can open up. good luck!

Agree with the above poster. You pretty much either love L&D or hate it. If I was your preceptor, I'd feel much better about you flat out saying, "yeah this just isn't my thing" rather than continue on because if that really is the case, your co-workers will probably pick up on it, and your patients may also. Give yourself time to adjust and make a decision, just be honest with yourself if it's not the place for you. Good luck either way.

I don't think the above responses are fair. Starting anything new is scary. You are totally out of your comfort zone. I say give it some time.
