I'm a seasoned L&D nurse and I'm trying to put together a gift basket for my friend who will be starting orientation on L&D soon. So far I have a stethoscope with a dual bell for moms and babies, a pocket dilation guide, an EFM cheat sheet, a watch, scissors, a cute pen, an OB wheel, a reflex hammer, a scrub cap, and this clear plastic ruler thingy I made to measure contraction length and variability. I put it all in a fanny pack so she can carry it around. Can anyone think of anything else that would be useful for a new nurse starting out in labor and delivery?

I'm sorry I don't have recommendations as I'm only just about to start as a new grad on L&D. That being said, I love this and am saving it to make myself a fanny pack! [emoji4]

You sound like a great friend! I liked the book Fast Facts for the L&D Nurse. It is expensive for what it is though! What EFM cheat sheet did you get her? I'm looking for one.

I've seen one that says "at your cervix"

This is absolutely wonderful @perfexion! She is going to greatly appreciate anything you gift to her, and I don't think you need to add anything else... but I have seen shirts that say "L&D Nurse, At Your Cervix" and have always thought that is entertaining!! also, a 1-10 cm baby measuring tape, tell her to apply it with tape to the back of her name badge, comes in SO HANDY for learning cervical dilation!!! :)
