While the legally *can*, most hospitals do not hire LPN/LVNs in L&D because an RN is used to interpret the fetal strip, assess/triage patients, etc.

You would have to contact your local hospitals. None here hire LPNs in L&D. In fact, only 3 out of the 12 or so local hospitals hire LPNs at all.

We no longer have LVN/LPNs in OB. I don't think that it's because they can't train LPNs to read the strip, I think that it is out of the scope of practice for an LPN to read and interpret a FHM strip.

I'm not in CA we have LPN's in PP but all they can do in LD is place patient on the monitor and get history they can't read strip (even if they know what it is) and no vag exams
