ACLS CERTIFICATION in OB

Specialties Ob/Gyn

Hello everyone!

Is your institution being required or suggesting that L/D nurses be certified in ACLS ? We just went Through Joint Commision survey and this is what they were implying. Any comments or information will greatly be appreciated.

Specializes in Community, OB, Nursery.

Because our L/D unit has a dedicated PACU, L/D must have ACLS as well. I don't think it's required to be OB-specific, though.

Specializes in L&D, PP, a little WB, note taker NICU.

We don't have a PACU, we recover in the patients room but are still held to recovery room standards.

Specializes in correctional, med/surg, postpartum, L&D,.

Everyone (RNs and LPNs alike) who work in either MBU or L/D are required to take ACLS at our facility. It has been used on our unit a couple of times, and it's been a rather useful tool. Very well worth the two day class we had to take. We do have a PACU on our MBU unit and it is dedicated more to OB.
