hey. i just got my acceptance letter to st vincents! does anyone know when the first day of class is? also, i have a bachelors degree in sociology. what is the process inorder to recieve your BSN after you complete the program if you already have a Bachelors degree? is it possible to take courses elsewhere while you are attending the program towards a Bachelors in nursing? i appreciate any guidance.

hi. i am having a dilema deciding whether i should reserve my spot in st vincent. some people have mentioned that this school is not accredited, and nursing courses cannot be transfered over. There is a chance i will have to transfer schools next year, depending on where my husband gets his residency position, and i do not want my credits to be wasted. does anyone know if this is correct or has anyone transfered their nursing credits to another school??
would i be better off taking science pre-req's next year and then apply to an accelerated BSN program for the following year, since i already have a Bachelor's degree?
Please help because i must make a decision soon!

The school is accredited with NYS. That is what is most important. They are allowed to grant associate degrees. The credits are transferrable. The school is not accredited by NLN which has nothing to do with the transferability of classes. I was accepted at St Vincent, I chose to attend Adelphi because I wanted to get my bsn since I already have a BBA.

thanx that relieved me a lot. i wanted to apply to molloy and adelphi since i too have a Bachelors degree, however, the tuition is super high in both schools and they told me they dont give financial aid for the most part, they give student loans. is this true? do you know if i can take some courses elsewhere, while enrolled in an associates program, to accelerate me to a BSN?

You do get financial aid if you qualify just as you would if you attended a public school. However, the amount that you get is so little that it would be nowhere near enough to pay the private schools. Adelphi is $750/credit starting fall 08. Students get by with a mix of federal grants and loan, some students get private school loans which are very expensive in terms of interest rates. You can always take classes at other schools, but there is no guarantee that all of your classes will be accepted as transfers. It really is up to the school. As far as transferring classes from your ADN program, if you drop or transfer out of a program midway, you may have issues getting those clinical classes transferred. Most schools require that you complete all clinicals with them. Keep in mind that each school is different.

I graduated from CMC in 1997. The best clincial and educaional experience. I was very prepared for the working world. I am currently in Adelphi's RN-BSN program. It is much easier and laid back now that I have been working and know my stuff. GO to CMC. You will not regret it!!!!!
