You are correct. No LORs or entrance exam. There is also no experience requirement to get in; all you need are the pre-req's and a gpa of higer than a 2.7. If your GPA>2.7 you are considered competitive.

I have a non-science degree with a gpa of ~3.0. The earlier you apply, the better. I think their cut off was the end of oct/beg. november. My application was not complete til almost the end of Nov (one school never sent my transcript) and I was on the wait list. I got my acceptance mid Feb. Start right after Memorial Day.

Classes needed before you start are the standards, A&P I and II, bio, chem, 6 credits of math, nutrition, biochem, developmental psych, microbiology, pathophysiology and maybe some others. They offer pathophys before classes start, but keep in mind it is a truncated version, I want to say you cover everything in 3 weeks or so.

Good luck on applying!

I had my orientation today, met with my classmates.

Some things you should know:

This batch will be the last under the original course format. The next class will be seeing changes (certain classes moved later into the year, etc.) and they will be adding stats. I don't know if it is a pre-req, but I'd take it just to be safe.

Clinicals are in hospitals in Rockland, Westchester, and the Bronx. There are no clinicals in New Jersey for our year, but it is possible.

FYI, they ask for a 2-step PPD. This is a new thing for me, because my job just asks for the one and that it's read in two days. Dominican asks that you do one shot, have it read, and the test repeated two weeks later. I forget the reasoning... but whatever.

If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me.

thanks for the response... i have a few more questions but dont know how to PM
did you have your pre-reqs completed before applying
also did you have to have CPR certification when applying
and are clinicals within the one year program, also do you know if the "new" program will still be a year long?

Your pre-req's must be done before you start the program. you can apply and have some in progress, but they must be wrapped up before you actually start the absn. you can hold off on pathophysiology if you want, because they will offer it to you. according to the director it is easy, but it is taught in a short amount of time... basically for my class it starts in the beginning of may and ends right before we begin after memorial day.

clinicals are part of the year. part of your time is in lecture/lab, and the other part is out in the clinical sites. when i said new program, i meant that they were re-arranging the classes in it, and adding some more to it. i heard stats, but i don't know if that is a pre-req or a class you'll be taking during the year. i would think it's a pre-req, but don't quote me on that.

Hi!
Thanks for all the helpful info about Dominican College. I too have applied, but for the class of 2010. Statistics is indeed a requirement.

I'm also hoping that clinicals in NJ will be possible.

How is everything going so far? I'm sure you're both very busy!

I plan to take biochem next semester at bmcc myself, i was accepted to dominican college this spring but am just finishing up my pre-reqs to be considered for the nursing program next summer. try going to cuny.edu and search for the course in each school, im sure bmcc isnt the only school offering this course.
