I heard at the information session that nearly 99% of students get that $30k scholarship!

Good luck to everyone. If you have any words of wisdom for the GRE, please share!!!!

Oh goodness. If you've been studying for the test, you will do fine! I got one of those cheesy princeton review books which actually really really helped. my friend's "GRE for Dummies" was pretty entertaining to read too.

I WILL say that during the test I thought I did MISERABLY. I mean, I was seriously considering not accepting my scores by the end of it! But I actually did pretty well with 570 verbal and 750 in math. the writing was rough, i got a 4.0 So all I can say is keep your head up during the test... GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Hey All! I applied to and got into Columbia ETP for 2009. Yes, most people get the scholarship, BUT it is really just a drop in the bucket. I think most people average well around $140,000 in loans. The first year is estimated at 100,000, so getting 32,000 handed to you is great, but does not really lower the cost that much. Also, most people need to get private loans in addition to public, so the interest rates are often higher and you may need co-signers! Lastly, I was worried about borrowing loans to live in Manhattan! NYC IS EXPENSIVE! So i decided to go elsewhere, but was still really excited that I was accepted!

I wanted to say that my GPA was 3.2, and I got 1070 on my SATs, but they still accepted me. I would STRONGLY encourage you to focus on your statement of purpose - because clearly that gave me a lot of bonus points, as my other scores were not overly competitive. GOOD LUCK

Hello all,

Well, my app. is in, with all materials. Does anyone have any idea when we will starting hearing about admissions decisions? Honestly, I would love to get into Johns Hopkins, but I currently live and work in NYC, so I can't help but think how nice it would be NOT to have to relocate.

Also, for those out-of-towners considering a move to NYC, the cost of living can really be minimized if you rent a room or do a house-share thing. The neighborhood is not THE best, but I do know alot of people who live there and are pretty happy/feel safe. It's a big plus to be nearby, since commuting in NYC can be time-consuming and stressful!

Also nice- you don't need a car to get around, and with so many colleges in the city, there are a lot of free/low cost things to do (if you ever have time)

Good luck to everyone!

Stacy

Hey All!

So after much consideration, I decided that even after the scholarship, there would be no way I could pay for Columbia! So I didn't apply! I'm paying off my undergrad loans right now and it's tough! Maybe I can work or teach at Columbia in the future! I'm hoping I get into Marquette..It's more affordable for me!

Good luck to everyone who is applying to Columbia!! Deadline's fast approaching!

I'm at Marquette. I have some issues with it. Def. cheaper, though I often question whether I would be getting a better education at Columbia, and that it would be worth paying for. Right now I feel like I'm still paying a lot, and only getting about 50% back as far as quality of teaching, etc. Good luck tho

I would be curious to hear whether the first year is similar most places. I know I've heard complaints about Columbia as well. I've heard from several people who are a year ahead of me that the GRADUATE portion of Marquette is far superior to the first year. SO, we can all keep our fingers crossed!

Hi all! I am also applying to this program. My stats are:

3.27 undergrad GPA (I know not so great, but I was so young and immature back then. )
4.0 in prereqs
GRE: 1310 (600V, 710Q) 5.5 in Writing
no professional background in healthcare

I'm a bit (or actually alot) nervous about the cost of tuition, but I guess it's just something that I will have to deal with as it comes.

Does anyone know when Columbia sends out their decisions? The website says Feburary but that seems rather late so I'm wondering if that's old information that hasn't been changed on the website? Thanks. The wait is making me extremely nervous!

It was February last year - I think I found out mid-February. Yeah, they don't leave you a lot of time, but it was one of the earliest responses I got from schools - others didn't come out until late Feb/early March.

I just checked - i got my acceptance on February 2nd, via Email.

Thank you for letting me know! I'm just sad to find out I am going to have to nervously wait until Feb! Are you are current Columbia student?
