Hi I m new to this site and I am looking for inspiration from the nursing community. I have an interview for a band 6 post at a different hospital to the one I work in. I also have to give a presentation entitled " how a band 6 can support a newly qualified staff nurse " my brain has gone to mush. I think I m getting myself in such a pickle as I recently had an interview for the same post on my ward and was unsuccessful ( I hope due to the fact I was rubbish and not that the successful candidate was good friends with one of the panel ) my confidence has taken a knock and I m dreading the presentation ( my current feeling is actually what do band 6 s do to support new staff ? As it does nt really happen where I currently work ! ) any advice would be greatly received. PB x

It will about support, giving confidence through your knowledge, experience and skills and being there for them as a resource. Backing them up when doctors, patients, relatives are giving them a hard time but being prepared to bollock them as required - gently and with empathy though. It is about you being responsible for the ward/area and being willing to take that responsibility on. Look at the job description, you can gain a lot from what is there and go for a visit. I cannot stress this enough, go and look, ask questions, get a feel for the place.
