Ello All!!!

Vee is my name and nursing is my passion. Unfortunately,I had to postpone my studies:o:o:o:o to pay bills, rent, and being Mom (I have a teen and two 10 year olds). It hurt me to my core to do this; I work at Macy's for a whooping $8.75/hour. I worked as a caregiver for the elderly doing 12hr. nights,which was perfect for me but the jobs were too far and few:in fact , I knew this before hand and I set myself up with three agencies; none of which were of any help to my family. I am not a CNA, I had to drop the class before I was able to challenge the board. I am the most miserable person in the Western Hemispere without my studies or the challange that nursing offers me. I have the ability to return to my classes in February, but as a Mom, I have to work nights throughout my studies. Does anyone have any ideas; they will be very appreciated.

Medical transcription - that's what I did while I was in LPN school. Other option - obtain your CNA and then work nights doing that. Could you work weekend option instead of nights - that might be easier - because you wouldn't have to reset your inner clock.

I am currently in a BSN program and work at the university for a great $6.44 an hour. My wife makes just a tad over that and we do what we can to get by. My mother actually just graduated LPN school in September and managed to work about 25-30 hours a week the entire program as a CNA and had stints where she had to work 40 hours a week to pay the bills. Now she is graduated and works at the same nursing home making a lot more money with a lot less stress. It's rough while you are going through it, no doubt, but it will all pay off in the end!

I completely understand your frustration. I am a mom, wife, full time employee and full time nursing student. I work midnight shifts just so I can accommodate my nursing school schedule and make enough money to help pay the bills. With this being said, and with extreme fatigue,......I am happy to report I just completed level 2 (of 4) with a B. I have so far a 3.0 through nursing school and I know there are others out there who can blow that up, but frankly, I'm incredibly proud of myself since I have spread myself so thin. Stay strong, focus on what you ultimately want to do and just go for it.

God Bless all of the hard working Moms and Dads out there doing what it takes to accomplish their goals.. to be Super Nurses!! I have an interview tommorrow for a security guard position. Any of you guys out there? Experiences? I would love to do medical assisting or transcription but I need additional courses. I was a security guard in New Orleans, before the storm and did 12hr.nocs then. I live in Escondido, CA. It is for a reception guard position at a hospital, or something to that neffect; safety is number one , of course.Feedback please.

I finally got the job:D!!! I will be working nights steadily!!! Boring but with lots of time to study. Thanks for the help and I can't wait to get back into the ratrace

If anything falls through with the job you have, here is a suggestion. I don't know what it is like where you are but in my area of the US there are often jobs available in group homes for overnight shifts monitoring overnight and assisting with ADL's and preparing to go to their day programs for MH/MR clients etc. There is a week or two of daytime training classes to begin with (you are paid for this training) but it does not require a license of any kind. I did this through a lot of my nursing school and I loved it. The money was decent normally between $8- $11/hr depending on wether you worked weekends or not. The weekend nights even had an added shift differential above the $11/hr.

I'm always surprised that more students don't consider waitressing or bartending, the money is fantastic and the shifts are usually not during class times. Its never made sense to me to see people struggling as a CNA etc. for $10 an hour, the experience might be good but it sure doesn't pay the mortgage.

I did apply at a group home for the physically challanged. The pay was $8.50/hr. and there was no nights available. Pay is also a huge factor because food, rent,gas and books. There are other places in Oceanside, but you need to have a good driving record. I don't know about different cities and the camera that clicks your picture or making a U-turn in a residential area, but in San Diego county, it is fine-time. My problem is mainly my family;we live in N. san diego, CA, possess one car( a "block" is usually about a mile),3 kids, two different schools,rent,Mommy-ing, and carpooling during the day. I try to study at night, but after a day of the above, I am pooped:smilecoffeeIlovecof.I never drank coffee or an energy drink ( of which I know is bad for my health) before nursing school. I just keep looking for that Glorious Day.

CONGRATS on the job. I hope it all works out for you. The last time I was in school I had 1 child and now there are 3. I don't know how I am going to do it. I am just grateful that I have my husnband. Now I have to transition from SAHM to student again. Much luck to you. Once again I hope it all works out. It will pay off in the end.
