well, since MRSA and cellulites(mostly caused by MRSA)can be treated with gentamycin which he is receiving,. Then what do you think you should be monitoring?

if the antibiotic is working then the cellulitis should be healing.

if not check whether the patient is resistant to the antibiotic which can be fatal. check for dizziness, cough and the rest.

I hope this helps

I'm thinking that the first priority for the nurse is maintaining high standards of infection prevention and control then regular assessment in making sure the cellulites is not extends?

Thank you!!

You are welcome, however keep checking this patient because MRSA is dangerous

Gentamycin is a significant antibiotic with severe side effects. Look up the potential side effects and what to look for with your patient.

While infection control is always a priority, those questions are usually going for the priorities in taking care of your patient, so questions you need to ask yourself are:

1) Can the MRSA diagnosis potentially complicate the cellulitis? If so, how?

2) What are the potential complications of cellulitis? What s/s do you need to be looking for in your patient?

3) What are the potential side effects of the Gentamycin? What side effects are serious and what will you do if your patient has them?

I always start these things with:

How might these diagnoses/treatments effect my patient?

How will I know if complications/adverse effects are occurring? What will I see?

What will I do if I see these complications in my patient?
