Please correct me

I have a test tomorrow on pediatric dosages I'm really nervous and I've been practicing with these problems. Can you tell me if I'm correct?

Order: Carisoprodol 2 grams per day in 4 divided doses

Available: Carisoprodol 500 mg tablets

What is given for each dose?

2g= 2000mg

2000mg/4=500mg/500mg=1 tab

Order: Benadryl 75 mg/kg of body weigh q4h prn

patient weighs 22 pds

available: 300mg/2ml

what should be administered per dose?

75mg*10kg=750mg/6=125mg

125mg/300*2ml=0.83 ml

Your first problem looks good. The second one confuses me.

First, the dosage is way too high. Second, why are you dividing by 6 after calculating the mg indicated based on kg?

The second one on my worksheet idk if it's a typo bc it says 7Smg/kg? I figured it'd be 75 but maybe I'm wrongattachment.php?attachmentid=20989&stc=1

Even if the dosage per administration in mg was 75mg, that's still too much. The recommended dosage for an adult is 25-50mg. You have a 22lb patient (a child), so the recommended dosage is 12.5-25mg.

It does look like a typo in the photo you posted. However, assuming the "S" is a typo, 7mg/kg is still too much as the answer would be 70mg for a 22lb patient...way too much Benadryl.

(7mg x 10kg = 70mg q4 hours)

Still, I am wondering why you're dividing 750mg by 6 in your problem in the OP?

75mg*10kg=750mg/6=125mg

As SoldierNurse mentioned, why are you dividing by 6? Where did you even get that from? It's asking per dose...it does not say "in 6 divided doses" which you then would divide it.

The 6 may be coming from the q4h (24h/4=6). Just trying to give some possible insight to the thought process of the OP.

Which is why I mentioned that it does not say "in 6 divided doses,"...

Sorry I was thinking per day. I divided the q4h. Stupid mistake.

yeah I sound really stupid big mistake I keep thinking per day when it says per dose idk why. That's why I always practice before the test and come here for feedback. We gotta learn from our mistakes.

I would contact the instructor and see what the typo was supposed to be and rework the problem. Also, with my school's pediatric med dosing we were either given the safe dose range that we could calculate based on the child's weight to determine if it were safe, unsafe, or safe but not therapeutic (too low of a dose)...or we would not get a dose range because it's a drug that should be easily recognized as incorrect based on specific patient factors (weight being one of them).
