Need Help With Presentation.

My clinical instructor wants me to do a 10 minute presentation on peripheral pulses. Last week I had a patient with a cast and she thought it would be good learning experience for my classmates to learn on how to assess perfusion on these kind of situations.

The problem is that I don't know if there is enough information to give for a 10 minute presentation. I know you have to check for capillary refill less than 3 seconds and that the skin is warm to touch. But other than that I don't know what else to talk about. Any advise helps.

your presentation just isn't going to be about capillary refill! discuss what the presence of a cast does to alter the patient's circulation and how you detect those changes. is decreased capillary refill the only thing you want to assess for before the patient's fingers and toes become ischemic, then necrosis and gangrene sets in? you can find information about compartment syndrome in your textbooks or on the internet to bring into your discussion. also, you can find information sheets on cast care that might give you some ideas to bring up in your talk on many of the hospital consumer teaching websites. notice how these teaching sheets have the information on them organized. several of these sites are listed on this thread:
