Need help about a disease.

    Hello everyone:

    I am studying GI disorders and one that comes up is called Diverticular Disease, which includes diverticulum, diverticulosis, and diverticulitis. I am having a hard time understanding what it is exactly. Can someone simplify it for me? Thank you in advance for any help.

    P.S. This is not homework, just a need to know for my knowledge base.

    Look at the suffix to tell you what it is....
    Knowing your med term will make these type of questions much easier.

    Diverticulum is a structure not a disease an here is a video that may help you understand the difference between Diverticulosis and Diveticulitis

    itis is inflammation. You can have tonsils without tonsilitis, appendix without appendicitis, bronchioles -----

    when i think of diverticulum i think of a pocket.... because that is what it is... it's a pocket in the intestines (like a cave)... when something irritates that cave it becomes aggravated and inflammed which will then cause the discomfort the patient displays. soo.... Diverticulosis = the cave
    Diverticulitis = the inflammed cave
