Just Started School & Pregnant

by Star33

I just started an LPN program last week and found out (unexpectedly) that I am pregnant with my 4th child! I know I can make it through the program because I WANT to. My question is do I have to notify the school? Or is it not really that important? I haven't even had my first OB visit yet... I am nervous that they may suggest I take time off. They can't force me, right? I really am uneasy about everyone finding out.

i'm not really sure. i would let them know, just in case. it will be hard to attend your classes when you are 8 months pregnant, no? i don't think they can force you to do anything you don't want to, but i'd tell them, just to give them a heads up. they may be able to work with you.
good luck!

Someone I knew had to bring a Dr's note to the DON every 2 weeks for clearance.

Hey! Congratulations! In my RN program the pregnant students have to bring a medical release from their OB so school will not be held reliable. They cannot keep you from school! As long as you follow their rules!

I had several pregnant students and they did very well. One student hid her pregnancy, as an instructor I wish I knew earlier since I would have lightened her assignment. It can be done, and congrads.

I would say hide it for as long as possible....You will need some kind of medical clearance definitely but it's not an urgency to inform them so soon.

Congratulations! You CAN do this. I worked two jobs with two of my pregnancies and went into labor at the end of my shift both times (waitress). Due to financial issues, I took 1 week off work and went right back. Now, of course they were vaginal, uncomplicated pregnancies & deliveries. It is possible to reach your goal!!

You will probably need a Dr's. note the further along you get. I don't believe they can kick you out, but I would still withhold this info until about month 3.

Good luck!

I would let them know, to be sure you are not put in a position to be exposed to medications/illnesses that would put your baby/pregnancy at risk. You will be doing clinical work in hospitals and can be exposed to things you really shouldn't be exposed to. They cannot ask you to leave school because you are pregnant. Good luck to you!

I would let them know, especially if there's any chance you could be taking care of pt's with CMV, Chemo (even if you aren't giving it, it's still in their body fluids), or cat scratch fever.
