Search this thread for some great advice from Esme12 and GrnTea. I had a pretty good grasp before I started reading their advice but since paying close attention to what they say, my care plans have gotten excellent grades! Thanks so much you two, for all you do!

How nice! I wish I had found them back when I was doing care plans. I've read their advice and thought, "THAT is what they wanted!! Now I finally get it (years later, hehe)!!"

The advice is also good in that it teaches you how to think AS A NURSE not just how to get a good grade on a care plan.

They have taught me to be thinking the whole time I'm assessing the patient about what might be a problem that needs intervention. Sure, I could just look up stuff in a book and make it work but I prefer now to get my nursing diagnosis and then make the interventions my own without looking in a book for them.

Exactly. I was very fortunate in that we had a care plan "seminar" of sorts way back in fundamentals. Our Director of Nursing was adamant that we know the "why" of care plans and how to formulate the plans from our diagnoses and not the other way around. It was intense, but it made it click for me. The seasoned nurses on this site are amazing in helping the students "get" it. Thanks!

You are such a blessing, Esme. How do you do your job AND mentor us? I really want to know because sometimes it seems like your contributions to allnurse is at least a half-time job. Surely you have some time management tips for those up us just coming up.

I don't know if the RPN to RN bridging program courses require me to do care plans. I'll check on you guys/gals if I need help. Thank you. Fortunately, my care plans way back on my RPN program was satisfactory. However, I need more advice on how to be more critical thinker when I'm on the spot (clinical shift).

:yeah:....These days...This is my job. I joined AN 9 years ago. I worked full time and had 2 small children. Some people read, some people play games for relaxation. I stalked AN! Although, Most of the guides and administrators have full time jobs. I have a rare auto-immune disorder (something I kept hidden for years) that attacks my muscles and skin....Polymyositis and dermatomyositis. I also have MS...go figure....LOL.

As My disability increased and the ability to work decreased...until I lost my supervisor/educator job a couple of years back...no one wants a disabled fat old nurse ( that is another story). AN became my sanity. I only walk in my house now with assistance and use an electric chair everywhere else. I have always had a couple of jobs and thrive under pressure. Type A I guess. I LOVE teaching and mentoring. It's what I do. I also volunteer at a couple of nursing programs in the sim labs helping the students critically think about the scenarios. They won't hire me...I don't have a masters. I don't mind. I just LOVE teaching.

Time management...I am the queen of multitasking. Family trait actually...;). I had 2 children 11 months apart (breastfeeding is NOT birth control :D) I have a knack of organizing mass casualty and clusters. Hence my passion for ER/trauma work. I plan. I have an annoying attention to detail. I can be a pain in the ass really. The higher the pressure...the more I shine.

However..DO NOT look in my closets, cupboards, or pantry! LOL
