I am a second semester nursing student and we just started to learn how to do IVs. I am on a med/surg floor with a lot of ortho patients and I really want some patients that are more complicated so I can do more! With that said, does anyone have any suggestions on what to do in the down time in clinicals? I don't just want to follow around the nurse, especially if she is really busy. But I also want to get the most out of my clinical time by learning as much as I can and utilizing my time well. Any thoughts?

My suggestion... Let there not be any down time... tag along with other nurses if they are ok with that and have them talk you through procedures they are doing or offer to do it once its in your scope of practice... Make every experience a learning experience.
