How many recommend purchasing a PDA?

I was thinking about purchasing a PDA but I am not sure if I absolutely need one. Do they come in handy? Are there programs that I can purchase for my PDA regarding Nursing? The PDA that I was thinking about purchasing is one of these:

Will I be able to upload any type of Nursing related software to any of these and do you recommend one over the other?

I am planning to buy a PDA somtime this month too.

I have decided to buy the LifeDrive by Palm, its a little more money but 4gb is worth it...look into one if you have the time and 4oo dollars to spare!

Could a mod please move this thread to the general nursing student section. I posted this thread in the wrong forum, sorry.

Hello,

I love my PDA. I prefer to type my notes during lecture and now I no longer have to drag the lap top to school cause I can type away on my PDA. I also use it in clinical for reference as I have a drug book on it. I also use it as a prompter for task becuase I can imput the task and tell it when to alert me. It also has a recorder so if i wanted to I could also record all or part of the lecture. I love mine and I think it is worth it!

The drug book is uploadable to any PDA?

I bought a PDA and use davis drug guide on it. The davis program has everything that is in the most up-to-date version and you get a year worth of updates. But a PDA is, in my opinion, one of the smartest buys you can get. It makes for fast knowledge in clinicals. When I am @ school we need to look up every med prior to giving it and listing everything in the book, so with just a few strokes you have everything, which comes in handy if you have a ton of meds to give. If your thinking about it and you have a few hundred to spend on a quality PDA, I say it is a good investment.

I am a nurse on a telemetry floor and I use my PDA ALL the time!!!!:rotfl: :yeah: I mainly use the drug guide and recently I have typed in some things I need to refer to at work, (different stress tests, some different dressings to use on wounds, etc) It is a great buy. The only complaint I have is that my battery does not last real long, however, I have had mine for a while (tungsten E) I think they have made them a little better now. Worth the $$$$$.;)

Some hospitals even have the latest drug guide in their computers and you can download it into your PDA...I am giong to try it with an older PDA I have. I'll keep you posted.

I never had one...but I know all medical interns at a local hospital in New York are required to carry the PDA's...I have never seen a nurse carry one....so think twice before you are going to get one!!!!

Do not worry about "thinking twice" as the above poster just suggested. Not only do the Registered Nurses in my area carry them because they cannot live without them, the nursing students are HIGHLY ENCOURAGED (per our instructors) to purchase them too!

I am an RN. and I love my PDA and could or would not live without it.

I was the only one in my class with a PDA when we started. I think at last count there 9 who have one now. Some use it more than others.

The usefulness of a PDA largly depends on you.
