history of nursing communication practices

I am trying to work with a team of students to develop a presentation for the rest of our class based on effective communication in various nursing roles. I have been assigned the history portion and am having quite a difficult time finding information on how nurses have communicated with each other, doctors, patients, family etc. over the history of nursing practice. Any information on books, web sites or other references would be appreciated. Thanks.
