Help With Dosage Calculations!!

I am currently taking Dosage Calculations but I am more hands on learning or learning in a classroom, but this class is only offered online! Could someone help me with some problems!!

What is the gtt/min flow rate?
 The order is to infuse 500mg in 250mL at a rate of 8mL/h. Calculate the mg/h:
And what are the mcg/min being received.
 A heparin drip was ordered to infuse at 1250units/h. The solution strength is 20,000units in 500mL D5W. A pump is used to monitor the rate. Calculate the flow.
 IV Rocephin 1gm is reconstituted with 10mL of NS. 500mg Rocephin is to be diluted with 50mL and given over 30min. What is the flow rate using a pump?
 An order of 250mg in 5mL is to be diluted to a total of 50mL and given over 70min. how much dilutent should be used?
In the problem above: What is the mL/h rate?

 [font='times new roman']a dopamine drip is ordered to infuse at 3mcg/kg/min. the solution is available in 400mg in 250ml d5w. the patient weighs 155lbs. using a 60gtt/ml set:
3mcg x __kg = mcg/min: 155/2.2=70.45kg 3x70.45=211.35mcg/min
[font='times new roman']what is the gtt/min flow rate?
gtt/min=60gtt/mlx250ml/400mgx1mg/1000mcgx211.35/min=7.925gtt/min rounded to 8 gtt/min
 [font='times new roman']the order is to infuse 500mg in 250ml at a rate of 8ml/h. calculate the mg/h: 500mg/250ml=2mg per ml: 8ml/hx2mg=16mg/h
 [font='times new roman']a heparin drip was ordered to infuse at 1250units/h. the solution strength is 20,000units in 500ml d5w. a pump is used to monitor the rate. calculate the flow. ml/h= 500ml/20,000unitsx1250units/h= 31.25ml/h rounded 31ml/hr
 [font='times new roman']iv rocephin 1gm is reconstituted with 10ml of ns. 500mg rocephin is to be diluted with 50ml and given over 30min. what is the flow rate using a pump? ml/h=55ml/30minx60min/h=110ml/h (55ml comes from 5ml (1/2 of reconstituted amount) + 50ml dilute= 55ml)
 [font='times new roman']an order of 250mg in 5ml is to be diluted to a total of 50ml and given over 70min. how much dilutent should be used? 50ml5ml=45ml
ml/h=50ml/70minx60min/h=42.86 rounded to 43ml/hr
hope this helps if not im me, always ready to help any brother or sister

Nov 14, '08I am only lacking these couple of problems to complete my dosage class! Its been soo hard because its only offered online...If someone could please help me!! I have done some but I'm not sure if I did it correctly...please correct me if I'm wrong! Thanks!

Nov 14, '08Did you attempt to do these first before asking for help?
I'm willing to help someone but only if they're helping themselves first.
Nov 15, '08your patient has heparin 25,000units in 1l d5w infusing at 15gtt/min. using a 20gtt/ml set calculate the u/h of heparin?
your calculation is incorrect. first of all, 3125 units of heparin an hour will cause a person to hemorrhageit is too much. you failed to include the conversion of minutes to hours and liters to mls in your calculations. u/h=(25000u/1l)x(1l/1000ml)x(1ml x 20gtt)x(15gtt/60min =.3125u/hordered 500ml d51/2 ns iv q8h. using tubing calculated at 20gtt/ml what is the gtt/min?
by dimensional analysis: 25,000 units/1 liter (dose on hand) x 15 gtts/minute (infusion rate) x 1 ml/20 gtts (drop factor of iv tubing) x 60 minutes/hour (conversion factor) x 1 liter/1000 ml (conversion factor) = 1125 units/hour
check: 1125 units (dose desired)/25,000 units (dose on hand) x 1,000 ml (amount the dose on hand comes in) = 45 ml/hour
45 ml/hour x 20 gtts/ml (drop factor of iv tubing) x 1 hour/60 minutes (conversion factor) = 15 gtts/minute (infusion rategiven in the problem).
your calculation and answer is correct.the physician ordered tylenol xvgr q4h as needed for fever. tylenol is supplied 500mg/tab. how many tabs will you give?
gtt/min=(500ml/8hr)x(20gtt/ml)x(1hr/60min)=10,000/480=20.833 round 20.833 to 2021gtt/min
your calculation and answer is correct.ordered for a burn patient 5000ml over 8h. what should the infusing rate be, knowing infusion pumps are calculated on ml/h?
tabs=(1tab/500mg)x(60mg/1gr)x(15gr/1tab)=900/500=1.8 tab= 2 tablets
your calculation and answer is correct.a client is ordered 375milligrams of methyldopa. 125milligram tablets are available. how many tablets will you give?
ml/h 5000ml/8h=625ml/h
your calculation and answer is correct.
(375mg)x(1tab/125mg)= (375x1)/(125)mg = 3 tablets
Nov 17, '08Adrienne, you have started two threads since you joined this site on the 14th...both of which are asking members to do your homework for you. People here will probably help you out because they are a pretty nice group but in my opinion...
not cool.
Do your own homework. These questions aren't incredibly difficult they just require you to spend some time...it should be your time not ours.
Dec 12, '08i agree with airforceRN. I can understand if you post a thread asking for help on a couple calculations to see where you are making mistakes. and show us the process you are doing. that way we can see where your mistakes are being made and we can aid you in making corrections to your process of solving the calculation. If people on this forum just solve the calculations for you, then you are not learning it for yourself. and knowing how to correctly do drug dose calculations is serious. i would not want a health care provider administering any medications to me when they did not properly study how to do them.
