Can someone plz help me out here? I have a pt. with ovarian ca and significant ascites. I can't seem to find any info on pigtail catheters in my nursing text pertaining to ovarian ca. I have another pt with a tenkhoff catheter that I drain BID, so is this pigtail essentially used for the same purpose, to drain excess fluid from the peritoneum??

is this pigtail essentially used for the same purpose, to drain excess fluid from the peritoneum?? i would suspect that the pigtail was used to access a particular area because of it's shape. it is being used as a drain.

Thanks Daytonite! :)

That's basically the same that I came up with on my google search. The cancerweb site I found particularly useful and informative.

Thanks again. :)
