group b strep positive

  1. 0
I'm working on a careplan for a mother who was group b strep positive. My instructor alluded to the fact that this would be a careplan for the baby as she was placed on sepsis protocol. Would this be Risk for infection r/t exposure to pathogens in the birth canal? How would I go about writing this?
Thanks in advance for you help.

Possibly. If the mother wasn't treated for GBS while she was pregnant, it definitely puts the baby at risk for infection as well. If a mother is not treated during pregnancy, the baby is usually started on a 7-10 day course of IV antibiotics. Find out of the mother was treated or not during her pregnancy, and what the final results were after treatments (if she was treated at all).
