Fetal Demise

Nursing Students Student Assist

Published

Hi.

My name is gayle and I need help with a presentation ofr L & D. I have to give a presentation on Fetal Demise, focusing on the role of the nurse. In my research I keep finding info about the causes and parents resources, I guess my question would be what should be the top priority to the client/family?

thx in advance for any help given

G~

You might try posting in the L&D area! You could probably get a good response there! Good Luck!

Specializes in ER.

Whatever is the top priority is OK, there are no rules as to how people should feel or act. The nurse is there to assist with the physical process, but also to meet the family on whatever emotional level they are on and help them get through the process with some tools for coping when they get home.

The number one priority for them is receiving support....from staff and from whomever they need it. Clergy, friends, extended family. The nursing staff helps them with these resources, helping them notify whomever is needed. We also help with accepting the situation and how to proceed (funeral plans, etc). We have a list of funeral homes who will work with these families, often offering free or very low cost services. We also help put them in touch with social/psychological services.

I would agree w/Canoehead. The priority is support....and what is needed is often defined by the family themselves. We take our cues from them, more often than not.

thank you very much for the info. I gave the speech which was very difficult, emotionally. :icon_hug:
