    mydriatic agent
    miotic agent
    cyclopegic agent

how to distinguish and how not to get confused with each other.

Try making flashcards that describe each of these so you can study and memorize them.
myDriatics - cause the pupils to dilate
miotiCs - cause the pupils to contract
cycLoplegics - produces paralysis of the ciliary muscle and relaxes the lens [think of plegia which is paralysis]

The bigger word (mydriasis) is bigger pupil (dilated)
The shorter word (miosis) is smaller pupil (contracted)

To remember which drug is for what, optometrist gives atropine (anticholinergic) to dilate=mydriatic agent; therefore cholinergics (eg pilocarpine) are miotic agents.
Many mydriatics are also cycloplegics since cycloplegics are antimuscarinics (=anticholinergic)
