Diabetes and Pregnancy

The other day at clinical, working with pregnant women, I noticed in the chart 2a+DM or DM2a or something to that effect. I asked the teacher what that meant and, of course, she asked me what I thought.

I said "Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus", which I think she said was right. Then at the end of the day she said for me to report back to the group what the "a" meant and if there are any other letters used for diabetes in pregnancy.

Anyway, I am having a hard time finding that out. Does anybody know what I'm talking about. Could you clue me in or refer to a website or two?

Thanks
