critical thinking assignment/PICO question

My group has a critical thinking assignment using PICO. Our subject is sepsis bundle/septic shock...I'm having a hard time forming a question with a nursing focus...please help

what have you and your group read about shock? what do you know already, from what sources?

this assignment is in part to get you to do that literature review and learn a lot about the topic and its care. i'll bet if you read about what it is, how it happens, what its effects are, and what nursing care is needed, you will have a better idea.

there is, alas, no shortcut to learning this ... unless you can get somebody on an to do the work for you. not me, alas. :D

I know that goal directed therapy has been used for severe sepsis/septic shock in ICU, tx in the first 6 hours has a much better outcome when protocols were followed, compliance seems to be an enormous issue when it comes to sepsis care bundles and that results in a lot of deaths. UTI's, HF and pna are the two most common infections in ED patients. I know that it's important to obtain blood cultures BEFORE giving ABX, measuring lactate levels, maintaining CVP above 8, O2 sat above 70, and treating with vasopressors. The questions I keep coming up with are more medical DX, not nursing.

When someone is septic what is happening to the person? How do those disease processes that cause sepsis manifest themselves? How do you "see" that someone is septic? Based on this, you should be able to come up with you nursing dxs. Assessing a real pt would be more helpful, but this is what you have to work with.
