Has anyone heard of a so-called free money for nursing students that Obama is providing? I heard something to this affect but cannot find out any more info...

I am in the same boat! I have looked all over - not many options at my school. I think I am about to go to a street corner and see who will pay me to get off LOL
And that, my dear, is what she said.
Seriously though, check with your local career/workforce center. WIA has scholarships they dole out through local centers. I have all my NS costs paid that way.

The government DOES offer student loan repayment. The Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program assists registered nurses by repaying up to 85 percent of their qualified educational loans over 3 years in return for their services at health facilities with a critical shortage of nurses. This is a government program through the Department of Health and Human Services. This is not automatic and you have to apply to get it, but HEY it's worth a shot. I am surprised more people do not know about this program, I have talked to many nursing students and none of them had ever heard of it, nor had my school's financial aid . Spread the word... this is a great program!
