Labor and Delivery Stethoscope

I will be graduating in the spring from nursing school and would like to work in Labor and Delivery, or possibly NICU. I am in the market for a new stethoscope and am confused with all the options available. I don't want to spend more than $200, and my current stethoscope is horrible, so anything would be an improvement. Any ideas on what my better options would be? Thanks for your assistance in advanced!

Trish

Hi Trish,

I used to work in L&D; I had a Littman Master Classic II (single sided). It was great for heart/lungs/BP's.

Whenever I needed to examine a baby, I used the Littmann neonatal scopes that were always secured to the warmers. You could use the MCII on a baby also, but you would hear lung sounds AND heart sounds at the same time, as the diaphragm is technically too big.

I use the Littman Classic II S.E. The large side is for mom and the small side is for babe. It light weight and I love it. Press regularly for the bell and press down a little for the diaphragm.
