These Feet of Mine

by haysie

Hi,

I'm starting the GWCC part time program next week. I feel ready and excited and am wanting a little insight. When I went to pick up my scrubs this week the guy talked me into getting some shoes. He said that I needed them in all white and I wouldn't be allowed to just use my running shoes. So, this is my question...

For my clinicals do I really need all white shoes?
Are Danskos really worth it?
What about the Klogs?
What shoes do you reccommend?

A little FYI: I have had problems in the past with plantar fasciitis and have recently quite running due to knee pain

Thanks in advance!

Expensive but oh-so-worth it are Z-Coils. Pay the extra to get the enclosed heel so you don't have to worry about the coils getting caught in tubing/lines/etc. There are 2 stores in the Valley - one in Gilbert at Gilbert/Guadalupe and I believe the other is in Old Town Scottsdale.

Yes - except for maybe a small logo

I swear by them. Have them in white (from school) and also black

What about the Klogs?

Never tried them

Dansko

Maybe you want to ask a podiatrist...

Gateway dress code says ALL WHITE NON-POROUS SHOES that have a back or a strap at the back and are not open toed. So Klogs as a brand are ok as long as they are not the type with the holes on the top or without the back.

PS... even with 25% off their prices are higher than some of the other places. Besides scrub tops (which we have no choice) I am at a loss to know why I would buy anything else there.

They may take a little while to get used to but Dansko's are flat out the best IMHO. Also - get really, really good socks. I got to Sports Authority and get real marathon runner socks - padded in the heal and toe. Make all the difference when you are on your feet for 12 hours.
