Nurse Mate Shoes 1st year RN student 2009

Hi I just joined today and this is my first post.

I cant seem to find any shoes men. My program requires the shoes to be white only. No color accents. Any brand names on the shoe itself is not allowed. No clogs. So I'm in a bit of a bind. I cant seem to find anything for men. I can only find it for women. I found Nurse Mate shoes that look unisex but only come in women sizing. They look comfortable, unisex, and I can get them at a great price due to a store credit.

If I do by these shoes I would just white out the blue heart. What is the conversion from women to men sizing w/ withds included? Is it better to have the shoes slightly snugged or a bit wider? I hear too wide might lead to blisters or bunions. Then again I dont want it to be narrow. I've never purchased women shoes.

Usually Men's sizes are 2 sizes smaller (Men's 5 is Women's 7, Men's 10 is Women's 12). I think widths are generally the same, but I am not 100% sure. That will give you a general jumping off point, but like everything else shoes will vary by manufacturer.

What about trying dansko's? They are all white, and don't look 'girly'. I used to wear nursemates and would wear a pair of those out in two to three months... I've had a pair of dansko's now for over a year and a half, and they're still going strong! They come in men's sizes too... Wearing a shoe made for a women might cause you to have foot/back/leg/knee/etc pain...

I agree that Danskos aren't especially girly, but they just don't work well for me.

Have you considered Birkenstocks? They are highly recommended around here, and they make some non-clog shoes for men. They are expensive but will last forever, and once you get them broken in, people RAVE about them.

Hi ALL!

I found a pair of shoes from Airwalk. Its all white and looks like skater shoes. There are holes for "ventilation" would I encounter any problems? Its seems that the Nursemates are sealed all around. What do you think? It looks like a loafer w/ one big velcro strap. What do you think of velcro?

I also found some shoes from Etonic (womens) its $20 more but I thought they only maid bowling shoes?

I couldn't find white shoes from Dansko. Birkenstocks look nice and comfortable but @ over $100 its out of my range. I will be doing clinicals only 2 times a week from 7-4pm. Thanks

Come to think of it I will pass on the Airwalks shoes. Its come down to 2 brands. Dickies Non-Slip shoes or Reebok Classic sneaker. Both are white. The Dickies looks plain and surprisingly called "Skate Shoes" and I like the fact that it says Non-Slip and looks lightweight. Is this just hype?

The Reebok Classics are nice and looks like it will offer a lot of support but does look quite substantial. Price is the same. I really like the Reebok but afraid that it might be a bit heavy? I'll be doing clinicals 2 days a week from 7am-4pm. I will be in class the rest of the time.

I haven't worn either of those brands, but I'd definitely try both on and walk around in them for a minute. You want something supportive enough, but not so stiff that it hurts, and not too heavy. If you intend to wear them once you're working too, getting the right shoes is more important than you could ever imagine!

You might want to check out Nike's website. You can custome order shoes from there website. I'm was just looking at pair of Jordan Team Elite low top basketball shoes that are pretty much white on white customized. They look pretty nice...but pricey of course. I'm on the search also...start my clinicals next semester.

I just had my wife go onto Zappos.com. She LOVES that website. There are all kinds of shoes on there to choose from. You can sort by color, gender, brand...
