sounds like a good deal. My back really feels it when I am standing. At my current work I stand/walk a lot as well, but just wear plain shoes. Better shoes would really be a great benefit.

I've only rolled my ankle once in my Dansko's, and I've been wearing them about three years.
I was running around my car (running late to get to another school), wet pavement on a hill, and down I went. I probably would have fallen even if I weren't wearing Dansko's.

I am seeing a lot of questions about Dansko's and ankles. I have to say I LOVED my Dansko's and wore them all the time. I also have always had very strong ankles, bring a trail runner, marathon runner etc. I took one bad step in my Dansko's rolling my right ankle and ended up shattering both bones (bimal) dislocated tailus and also completely shearing all the ligaments and tendons in my ankle. I would wear these shoes with caution!

I have to say that after rolling my ankle, needing xrays and not being able to walk right for weeks, I tried the danskos again. After one day, my ankle was sore from wearing them, don't remember anything happening that day. So, I hung it up. I ordered Croc Blitzens for the winter. I can wear them for any length of time and they are comfortable and never hurt my feet. I'm hoping the lined ones are even more comfortable.

I have weak and hyperflexible ankles and flat feet. I find that I can't safely wear anything that is a clog--the chance of rolling my ankle (and hitting the floor spectacularly) goes way up when the shoe does not hug my foot all the way around. A bummer, because Dansko's are very nice. Instead I buy a high-quality running shoe (Sauconys fit me best, but you need to find the brand that works well for you) and use PowerStep insoles that I get from my podiatrist. I've even contemplated hightops for added ankle support, but they are too heavy.

I'm really sorry that happened to you.

I have weak ankles, bad knees and after my back surgery three years ago, I can legitimately claim back issues. Danskos are the only shoes I've found in which I can walk or stand all day and not have back pain. They also minimize my knee pain -- something about the steel arch supports. I've been wearing them since my first knee injury in 1995, and although I have turned my ankle a few times it hasn't been serious. I'm also perfectly capable of turning my ankle while barefoot.

Your mileage may vary.

I am so glad I read all of these posts. I am getting ready to start the clinical portion of nursing school and have to get all white, leather lace up shoes per my school's requirements. I was going to get the lace up danskos but I have weak ankles so I am glad I have read everyone's posts. Can anyone recommend any other brands that are lace up and good shoes for being on my feet all day? Thanks!
