What Stethoscope to purchase?

Nurses Uniform/Gear

I was wondering what is the best stethoscope to purchase for an incoming Nursing Student? I searched online but find a variety of different brand names of stethoscopes! I am unsure which to purchase?????? Any ideas would help ;)

I strongly agree with the poster who encouraged you to try perspective stethoscopes before buying. I went through 3 before finding one I can really hear out of (ultrascope). Just as an example every one I know recommends Littman Cardiology but I could not hear out of it. Everyone I know thinks the cheapo spragues are junk but I have 2 coworkers who love them and wouldn't use anything but. It is highly individualized and the only way to really know is to try them out for yourself.

I agree - try out as many as possible! I hear pretty well out of my ADC Sprague that cost me $12 on eBay. I also have a Littmann Cardio III I got on the same site for $50 and I think it only sounds a bit better than the ADC. I tried an Ultrascope once and I wasn't very impressed (but that's probably NOT the scope's fault, it's just the way I hear).

A Littmann Classic II S.E.. Everything else I have used (other than my brand new Littmann Cardiology III) is no good!

I would go with the Master Cardiology. This is the one that I have here: http://goo.gl/AmJwnb I've been using it for a while now and it's great! Before this I used to have a cheap-o ADC stethoscope and I just couldn't hear sounds clearly. Good luck!
