What are my chances of impaling my foot with sharp things?

Alegria "Mary Jane" style shoes. I've found these shoes to be magically comfortable and supportive.

That being said, I keep envisioning a giant needle being dropped slow-mo onto the top of my foot, piercing through a vein- followed by ridicule for wearing silly shoes that don't protect my feet.

Has anyone ever heard of that happening? Is there enough of a risk of dropping stuff on my feet that it should prevent me from wearing the shoes that make my feet sing out in joy?

Please help an indecisive new nurse out!

Thanks!!

I'd be more fearful of getting poop or blood on my socks.

Just realized that this post totally sounds like I'm only concerned about one of my feet, or that I only have one foot. I do have two feet, both of which I'd like to remain intact and puncture free.

The thought of excrement and/or blood on my feet doesn't really excite me either.

Plenty of bodily fluids have made their way to my shoes before and I think it's icky. The needle is probably not that likely, the icky is almost guaranteed. That being said, LOTS of my coworkers have those.

I think that really depends on what area you work in. I wouldnt by any means suggest those shoes in an ER. You run the risk of getting your feet run over by moving EMS stretchers, things getting dropped during traumas and codes, and getting nasty stuff all over your feet (nothing like a puking drunk to ruin your socks) Have you tried the other alegria styles??

If a needle fell, I doubt it would have the propulsion to stab into your foot. Unless it is against your policies, wear them. Have you tried alegrias other styles that do offer full coverage?

I've worn crocs for years and the only thing that has happened is the gush of fluids, but that saying all I had to do was scrub feet put on new socks and sanitize the shoes. If I had other shoes on they would have been toast. Don't think I've ever seen needles piercing shoes.

I will only wear all leather shoes or sneakers to work point being i like my entire foot overed in the event of the yuck, and there is a lot of yuck. When yuck happens- your foot is protected and a bleach/ alcohol/ sani wipe will make your shoes look brand new again and not let any of that get near your skin.

I"ve had a gurney try to run over my foot. Danskos only since they have stopped the tire and prevent a crushed foot.
