Uniforms versus Scrubs?

I was told that it was 'mandatory' that I purchase at *least* one school uniform to the tune of $250 (I believe it's a pair of pants, jacket and a top), at next week's orientation -- and they want it paid in full, on the spot. Apparently the uniform guy will be there and will be fitting the students for them.

I started thinking, though, that perhaps the uniform isn't the same thing as wearing scrubs every day for school, especially in light of being fitted for them? Am I wrong in my assumption or am I going to be out of my mind in thinking that I have to drop ~$750 on freaking uniforms (because I'm sure as hell not doing laundry every night)?

Ack!!
