is LITTMANN still the best brand when it comes to stethoscopes???

I recently was hire to work in the cardiology floor and I realize today that my stethoscope is broken. I am ready to buy a new one but not idea what type. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

I do love mine! Have had my cardiology stethoscope for years. I would advise getting it engraved with your name. Just in case it accidentally takes a walk. Name tags can be removed, but engraving is forever.

I'll second the engraving idea.

My husband has a nasty habit of misplacing stethescopes, pens, jackets and just about anything else you can think of at work. When he lost both of his Littmans in the same week, he asked to borrow mine. Reluctantly and against my better judgement, I let him. Although he SWORE he wouldn't set mine down anywhere except back in my locker at the end of his shift, it somehow managed to walk away as well. (I made DH buy me a new one right then and there!) Six months later, a surgery resident came through to consult . . . wearing a stethescope around his neck that had a suspiciously similar scuff across the tubing. Sure enough, when I got close enough, I could see the engraving. Couldn't read it, but could see it.

"WOW, Thanks!" I said excitedly.

"For what?" he asked.

"You found my scope and brought it back!" He turned a rather interesting shade of puce, but tried to brazen it out. My name engraved on the bell was something he couldn't argue about.

It went directly into my locker and comes out occaisionally when my orientee forgets her scope. I have never mentioned to my husband that it came back because I'm sure he'd want to borrow it again, and that's just not gonna happen! He is now using an obnoxiously pink colored scope that amazingly, stays where he puts it when he sets it down. I guess it's either too distinctive or too obnoxious a color for anyone to pick up and walk away with!

And yes I think Littman is best get a classic 2. you can go to cardio ones but they just arn't that much better.

Answer is YES.

Littmann still rules the market and have many stethoscopes with great quality in there orificenal. They are good at acoustic quality as well as provides duel sided chest piece.

They know the need of market and have ability to fulfill that needs.

This is a bit of an old thread now, but had a comment on Littmans: I bought a Select but couldn't hear much out of it at all. Very disappointing $50 expense. Then spent a little less than three times that on a Master Cardiology and I can hear a bug fart at 20 paces. Now THAT's considerably better, IMHO :) Everyone's hearing abilities and preferences will lead them to whatever is the best match for them---it's a personal choice, really.

My Select I gave to my kids for Halloween costumes. My MC....someone's gonna die if they touch it!

I literally laughed out loud at the "bug fart" statement!!!

I recommend getting a cardiology III during nurses week or Black Friday. They are on sale at the best prices then or so it seems.

Older thread, but the for cardiology purposes I've read really good things about the Welch Allyn Elite and DLX. In one comparison they rated as having about the same loudness as the Littmann cardiology and master cardiology, but with much less distortion and greater clarity.

Oh my gosh!!! I laughed so hard!! *wipes tears off face* I am mature..I swear...but that!! :roflmao:

ah yes, the 'bug fart' comparison.....gets the point across!! :D

I had a Littmann 3100 electronic scope purchased as a gift for me from my late grandmother - I'm hard of hearing and I second the bug farting - except at 30 paces. Really good especially if you work with obese populations - there is no body habitus that can't beat the electronics!
