Crocs Brand Shoes

Nurses Uniform/Gear

I did a search on Crocs to see if this has already been discussed and I merely received a message saying I'd need to wait 20 seconds to try again, so I assume not.

I just bought my first pair of Crocs shoes yesterday, will try them out tomorrow. Anyone have any experience with this brand of shoes? Are they as great as I hear?

I liked lots of the sales points about the shoes but I wonder if it is actually true or not. My sis swears by them but after looking at them they look like cheap plastic, yet the few folks I have talked to about them have absolutely nothing bad to say.

Any personal experiences with this brand of shoe?

Curious, let's say you are working in those cute crocs with the holes in the top and you drop a needle bam and (my luck) it would end up right in my foot. I am thinking I would be liable for my own injury by not wearing shoes that protect my feet. I would like to get some but just thinking about needle sticks in my feet freak me out.:crying2:

They sell them without holes as well....that's what I wear with my uniform (for non needle stick reasons). if you to to their website, you'll see that have ones with holes on the top and side, ones with holes on the side, but not on the top and ones with no holes on the top or side.

It's all about options :)

Peace,

Cathie

Last time I worked in a hospital, about two years ago, I was still in high school, I wore Lowa mountain shoes made from Gore-Tex.

They're pretty big shoes with very thick soles wich have a lot of profile and are actually designed for outdoor sports, long distance walking and such but I find that they're perfect for working in a hospital as well.

I didn't get any feet aches whatsoever, even after having been on my feet 8 hours in a row. These shoes give so much support, you can get aching feet.

Another advantage of mountaineering shoes is the soles have so much grip that, no matter how slippery the floor is, it is almost impossible to trip.

One day the cleaners had mopped the floor a bit too well. For the nurses it was very hard to get to the patients because they had soles that didn't offer any grip, for them it was like walking on ice. Because I had outdoor shoes on I could simply walk over the slippery floor without any danger of tripping

Just giving my opinion.

Has anyone seen the croc add ons that have been on the ebay site? If you go onto ebay and put in crocs in the search bar, you will find the designs to add onto your crocs for all occasions.........interesting idea.....what does everyone else think? I guess they just push into the holes.......again very interesting. :rotfl: I wonder if it catches on!

I just wore my first pair the other day for 8hrs. During that 8 hrs I sat down for about 20 min. No pain in my feet, or back from the hard hospital floors. Love them! (i wore the Metro style) I also love that you can dump them in a bucket of water and bleach to clean them.

At the hospital I do PRN work at we aren't allowed to wear the one's with holes in them due to infection control. Is that happening anywhere else?

We're not wupposed to wear anything but white shoes, although some people manage to get away with wearing some that are more color than they are white. Myself, I figure I have to wear something that I can work in!!! Either they want me there with feet or at home with the poor old things propped up!! fortunately my new Birks are white!

Crocs come in an off white color. They seem to pass for most hospitals that require white.

I'm really disappointed in them myself. Day #1 is great, the days following are awful. After a couple of days off we are back to Day #1 again.

I purchased a pair of Asics Gel shoes and they bite too. So, I ordered a pair of Birkenstocks and we'll see what they do.

I don't know if there is something wrong with my feet or if at the ripe old age of 43 I'm too old to do this job anymore. I have never experienced this level of discomfort before. Just driving home is agony. After sitting long enough to drive home I find myself limping when I walk in my front door. It is as though once I sit down for more than 15 minutes my feet go on strike. :)

I have two friends that are podiatrists. If the Birks don't work I'm going to call one of them and beg for help.

I bought a pr of Birks too and didn't like them. Another $125 wasted. Also have a pr of Dansko Sport Clogs. They're ok. I do like my crocs tho. But since we have to wear all white shoes now, I had to put my hot pink pr away.:o
