Hi fellow nurses,

I'm sure this is the 100th post you've read regarding shoes recommendations but I feel like I am out of options. I have tried what are said to be the "best" New Balance (Baddeley 890), Nike (Lunarlon & Air) and Danskos, but either they do not have enough support (NB/Nike) or they are too tight/large (Dansko). I am not sure what other shoes to try. Some say Merrells, others say Asics. I have also tried the Dr. Scholl's inserts that are made for your feet, but still no improvement. Any recommendations?! I'm desperate and feel silly continuing to return the shoes.

Much appreciated!

If you're passing on Danskos because the ones you had didn't fit properly, give them another look. Danskos are hand made, and each pair is just a wee bit different. Sometimes you have to try on every pair in the store in your size before you find the perfect fit. Sometimes you try a size larger and a size smaller than "your size" to find the perfect fit.

That said, Danskos aren't for everyone. Maybe your perfect shoe is a Birkenstock. My husband wears combat boots. Literally. And steel-toed construction boots, and Doc Martins. That's what works for him. You have to find what feels best to YOUR feet.

More advice: spend the money on good shoes. It's worth it. When you find them, buy two pairs and rotate. It takes more than 24 hours for the innards of your shoes to recover from a twelve hour shift, and they'll last a whole lot longer (thus costing less money in the long run) if you rotate them. Your feet, legs and back will do better also.

I hate to answer the poll because I haven't tried them all. I've typically wore New Balance. I've had 2 pairs that were great and 1 pair that killed my feet.

I'm haven't found the perfect shoe and really haven't been on a quest to try yet but until I really get into looking, New Balance for me.
