Best way to clean your shoes?

Nurses Uniform/Gear

Published

I am a nursing student and it gives me the heebie-jeebies (sp?) to wear my shoes home after my clinical days. I store them in the garage, but aside from that, I'm not sure how to steer clear of the germs and clean them. What do you experienced nurses do for your shoes? Thx.

Leave a change at work (or in the car) to wear only at work! I like white & that way they stay looking pretty sharp for work! I also don't like the idea of taking "bugs" in or out with me if I can help it!

I share your "heebie-jeebies"; it's tough when there isn't a place to leave them at the hospital between shifts. I try to remember to wipe them all over with Kavi-wipes (disinfectant wipe) at the end of the day and I occasionally clean the leather parts with Vim to keep them looking fresh. I also always have them wrapped up in a plastic bag when carrying them around.

A friend who is an RN (I'm just beginning Nursing school) and I were just talking about this. She said she wipes hers with a bleach containing wipes all over, including bottoms before she gets in her car. She doesn't wear them inside her house. She doesn't want those germs in her house and on her carpet. I'm planning to get a small plastic bin at the dollar store to keep mine in after disinfecting. I don't want my kids playing in those germs.

Clean them at end of shift with a wipe, then switch them when I get to the car, where they stay.

Polish them once a week or PRN at home (in the garage).

it's useful ,THX.
