Please tell me what kind of work shoes are the best. I am in desperate need of a comfortable supportive shoe.

Thanks

Love my skechers, have multiple pairs for work and home. Got sandals that are very cute too and love them!!My legs and hips stopped hurting after 6 days of 12 hr shifts in a row.

My favorite is Danskos. They are different at first because they are hard, and you wonder how that can be comfortable. But they are. I also have a pair of Allegrias. They are not as comfortable, and I feel like I have to use my toes to keep the shoe on, and my calves are sore half way through the day. I can work 3 days in a row in my Danskos, and my feet are just a little sore after that 3rd shift. When I first graduated, I'd wear Nike Shox, and my arch was always sore.

Danskos are all handmade, so every shoe will fit different. You may need to try on 4 pairs of the same size to get the right fit.

I wear skecher's to work. They have laces and are non slip. I like them and tomorrow i am going to put my insole in them.

Hi dcfashionista,

What kind of insole? I have worn out at least 2 pairs maybe 3 of skecher's. I have non skid for work and the regular ones for "play". I got skecher sandals last fall and love them!! Their price is going down, which is much appreciated.

I'm still having incredible heel pain. I work in the NICU where we do a lot of standing and a lot of walking for 12 hours. I've tried Alegrias, i find they stretch out, easy to kick off, roll ankle on, and the padding just flattens out. From what i've been told Dansko and Sanitas use to be the same company but have now split. Dansko's are now exported and made in china where Sanitas are still hand made here and are better quality. That being said, i tried Sanitas, my heels still hurt and the shoe its self was tight on the upper top ridge of my foot ( yet i'm actually flat footed and need arch support). Tried having them stretched out with no success. I've had custom orthodics made and have tried them in running shoes and my heels STILL hurt. I've also tried those hideous looking cherokee Rockers similar to the sketchers shape ups thinking it would shift some weight off me heels....but to no avail, my heels still hurt. I've also worn Crocs and find them to have zero support or cushion. Not sure what the next step is, but made another appointment with the podiatrist. Other girls i work with love the sanitas and the alegrias but they are just not for me. One swears by her Birks, and others by their new balance.

Sounds like you need to visit a DOCTOR and see whay you have foot pain. Be a good nurse and get the appointment tomorrow!!

I'll add one no one else has mentioned yet that I found here. Shoes for Crews makes non-slip shoes mostly for the restaurant industry, so not only are they nice when things get spilled/vomited/... you know... they're comfortable for a 12 hour shift and 1/3 the price of a pair of Danskos (I originally bought mine in school and needed something plain and cheap- SFC's were perfect). That said, my wife works NICU and has 3 pairs of Danskos. Our hospital is getting ready for a uniform change and I'm thinking about trying some out.

I also just got my first pair of Gold Toe support socks from Amazon. I've only worn them one night so far, but they seemed to really help the leg/foot fatigue.

I was not impressed with their web prices as they are similar to store prices. They do look good in many styles. Danskos are too hard with little cushion, never found a comfortable pair that fits.

This is confusing to me, because my Alegrias are not flat at all, they have lots of built in arch support and remind me of a cushier version of the Birks footbed, minus the toe bar.

LOL, I'm totally serious that mine are flat and they just outright hurt my ankles after a couple of hours. My ankles hurt so bad in these shoes that I have anticipatory ankle soreness now just by looking a them and I don't even have them on yet. So, I look at them (they look brand new) but then my brain/memory goes to how my ankles feel after wearing them for a couple of hours on the floors of my unit and I'm like "nah, I'll pass on that"! This is the ONLY shoe that I've ever had this experience with. I have MBTs, Danskos, Sanitas and Birkenstocks and they don't do this to my ankles!

When my feet hurt I hurt all over....Anyone else expeience this? Love my Skechers!!!

I have been wearing a new brand of shoes called Akesso for a little over a month now. They are great. Very flexible, easy to clean (I work in an OR) have plenty of cushion and are immediately comfortable. They are not hard on your feet and joints the way heavy clogs are. I wore those for years but cannot any more because of foot and joint pain. My open back (mule style) Akesso shoes feel just as comfortable after a 12 hour shift. I can highly recommend them to everyone.

If you would like to check them out go to akesso shoes | designed for comfort, safety and style on the job.

I could have written this about myself. Mine isn't heel; I've had plantar fasciitis on my right foot for last 13 years. The only solution for me is going barefoot; of course, that's simply not going to work when I'm working or going into public places. So sorry about your foot pain. Sometimes the pain can be crippling.
