Resume Help ER position

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Specializes in ER.

Hello! and thank you for your time! I am hoping to get some very needed feedback on my resume and cover letter. I am worried because I moved from California to Oregon after earning my ASN in May in CA and wasn't able to take my NCLEX in OR until the beginning of October.

I moved to be closer to and take care of my mother who became very very ill. I am applying to numerous positions but specifically to an ER department that is hiring 12 RNs!

I'm not sure if my cover letter is too personal.

Thank you for your time and help! I really appreciate it!

Dear

I am applying for a Registered Nursing position at Providence Health and Services of Portland, Emergency Department.

I am a recent graduate who was awarded the Nurse Scholar scholarship through St. Marys Medical center (SMMC). I was one of the few students selected to complete their preceptorship in an Emergency Department. I gained extensive experience completing 162 hours during my preceptorship in a level II Emergency Department. If interested, I have a letter of recommendation from the registered nurse who was my preceptor while working in the ED. I was asked to work for the hospital I precepted with upon graduation, however, I made the decision to move to Oregon to become my ill mothers Home Caregiver. After 5 months of furthering my nursing skills by being a home-health nurse as well as working at a family practice part-time, I am looking forward to completing my goal of joining a fast-paced, high pressure, patient satisfaction committed Emergency Department.

I was instantly drawn to become a member of the Providence team when I accompanied my mother to the Emergency Department. I was moved and inspired by the healthcare team that provided care for my family member. There ability to get the job done quickly and efficiently while still being attentive and caring was impressive. Working for Providence Health Care and Services would be a privilege and provide me with the environment I seek focusing on the core values of compassion, respect, excellence, and stewardship.

Thank you for your time and consideration I look forward to speaking with you about this employment opportunity.

Respectfully Yours,

I do not have extensive experience myself with nursing resumes (student). However, I thought I would chime in on a couple of grammatical errors. I have heard from several nurse recruiters that those with common errors are among the first to go. In your cover letter mothers is possessive *mother's. Also, there should be *their. I did like your content and how you highlighted your clinical experience. Best of luck to you.
