"Objective" for new grad nurse

HI!,

I finally passed my NCLEX and I am working on my Job Search. While going over my resume, I was not exactly impressed with my objective, "to obtain a position as a new graduate nurse". I feel like it leaves too much unspoken, or perhaps is just too generic.

I would appreciate some feedback and suggestions regarding what to write. I am assuming, that at the very least I should tailor the objective to the particular floor/position (if stated and clear in the job description) that I am applying for IE "to obtain a position in an Intensive Care Unit", but perhaps add something like "where I can further develop my clinical skills and utilize my analytical skills"?

Skip the objective. Employers know you are looking for a job.

For my resume assignment I included the objective as required. For my official resume in eliminated it an included a summary of qualifications

Too true - "Objective" is very old fashioned. No one uses it any longer.

As a new grad, your resume won't be very robust, so be sure to go all out on your cover letter. Do some background work on that employer and make mention of this info in your letter - e.g., "I would love to work in the premier hospital in XYZ, in which the first cardiac bypass was performed . . . Be sure that you understand the organization's mission, particularly if they are faith-based - LOL, you don't have to convert to that religion, but make sure that you have knowledge of the effect it may have on their philosophy of clinical services.

Definitely no objective. Current practice is to list a "Skill Profile" or a "Professional Profile" with bullet points that highlight important information.

For example, mine reads:

PROFESSIONAL PROFILE

Caring, compassionate, dedicated, and team-oriented registered nurse with two years of experience. Excellent in time management with superior organization skills. Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks successfully. Known for taking on additional responsibilities. Adaptable to new situations. Focused on providing excellent patient care and a positive patient experience in a cost-effective manner.
