New grad RN with 3 years LPN experience

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

So I'v been working on my resume and cover letter. At the moment I am trying to decide wether to take off or leave the "outstanding student award" that I recieved at the end of my LPN program 3 years ago.

Should I even have that on my new grad RN resume?

I'm thinking I should take it off, but then again will it make me look any better? I'm just not sure. What do ya think?

I would take it out, it was 3 years ago while working on your LPN..

I think you should put it on your resume because it shows that you have experience working with patients. 3 years is not that long ago and employers will understand that within those 3 years you were advancing your education by completing RN degree. This will look really good on your resume and any experience in the nursing profession counts. You are going to be competing with people who have years of experience and who will not hesitate to put those years of experience on their resume since that is what employers are looking for.

She was asking if she should put "outstanding student award" from 3 years ago on her resume, not here experience :) Her experience should be highlighted as well as awards won during her transition from LPN to RN.

IMO, leave it out. Instead focus on the experience and skills that you developed while you were a LVN.

Hey congrats on your RN...:) I would put them in your resume after your professional experience. I would also put the clinical rotation experience while you re a student. That helps a lot too. I think that what got me a job at the largest hospital in downtown. I had a three month experience prior to that.

Good luck...
