Is it worth playing for RN resume? Does anyone know generally or statistically if potential employers use to ATS tracking system for RN resumes?

I was wondering how valuable would it be to pay for a professional RN resume?

All feedback is highly appreciated!

My sister works in HR at a big company known to be difficult to get a job for. She wrote my resume. If only I didn't suck at interviewing.

In our nursing program, we had a class for 3 weeks that taught us more than I care to know all about every kind of resume and cover letter on earth. How to present them, on what weight of paper, font, ink setting, presentation...you name it, they covered it. I made my own resume.

With free software online and sample resumes to pull from...IMO it would be a waste of my money to hire someone to do it. Writing was one of my best talents in college as well so that's why I think it's cake...other people have other talents and need a talented writer to help them out.

Most of the resumes these days are submitted via online. Now we don't have to worry about expensive weighted reams of paper and all that other stuff.

Remember, the resume reader has tons of resumes they are going through. It will be the cover letter that will catch the eye...something unusual but professional. Short, to the point, don't waste their time. I've put a picture of myself that I designed into the heading. I paid for a few head shots done professionally. It looks classy; I think the employers like that: to have some idea of who you are.

Take the money you were going to spend on the resume, and set it on fire... At least then you get something for the money.

I have always typed my own resumes since the days of the typewriter and old word processors. I have never utilized a resume-writing service and, due to the prohibitive cost, will not do so anytime soon.

I personally have always written my own resumes and I do tailor them for each job I apply for. I make sure to utilize the wording in the job ad so that I get tagged by the computer system that initially searches and forwards viable candidates to HR. It is tedious as heck but it works....I always get lots of interviews. I personally would never hire to have one done because I have never needed to. That being said, if you are unsure about doing it, would rather NOT do it, are bad at doing it or aren't getting any replies, I can see where it could be worth it to tap a professional. Just make sure you get one that is familiar with nursing resumes and then strike a deal to get a specially tailored one back for each job ad you send them that you want to apply for. Likely to be expensive. If you can learn to do your own you will ultimately be better off.

Fiverr has some interesting resources... including where individuals will edit your resume, etc.

There are actually a few nurse managers on there that review resumes and do that on the side too.

I invested because I have difficulty with wording on resumes. Have an interview this week with a hospital and have gotten a ton of calls.

I think it depends on you.

I didn't know there was such a thing, not sure why. That seems like a valuable way to make money; that being, because there's always someone to pay for a "guarantee" of being rewarded something. Whether that be a job (paying for a resume) or a grade (paying for papers).

I'm the worst at writing resumes. I'm sure I've lost a lot of great job opportunities because of my poor resume writing skills. Still, one of my colleges offered free help (pretty much writing it) with the resume. It turned out awful. It didn't represent me well, it missed a lot of my important skills, the wording sounded stale and cliche'. She had even put one of my skills as Microsoft Word and word processing- no offense, but computer skills is a modern, commonplace skill. Paying for any similar experience would have been outrageous. There are so many websites that will give advice and sample resumes, that there's no need to pay. Peers, coworkers, instructors, Internet strangers are all willing to help critique a resume you wrote. This is a representation of you, it tells your professional story. No one else can give that proper justice but you.

I like to tinker with my resumes too. Your advice on using key words from the job description is valuable. I've never done much with that. Thank you for mentioning it.

Great responses and input from all. Thank you!

For clarification an (ATS) is a software application designed to handle the applicant's recruitment process, and track-ability”.

An important component of the ATS is the "Resume porificer".

This software, which features assist in matching/ranking candidates by helping understand” what your uploaded resume is saying. I know not every employer is using these systems but large medical health care corporations are and its important to know how one's resume is "dissected" by modern computer software.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know a ballpark price for a resume to be professionally written?
