Puerto Rico school feedback - thread #2

Wow after 9 years and 1336 posts they closed our thread because it was too long.

The original thread and all the helpful posts can be found here:

https://allnurses.com/international-nursing/puerto-rico-school-28678.html

There are 134 pages in that thread but the last 130 pages were from 2010 and beyond and there is a ton of helpful info in there. Hopefully the current students will continue this thread as I graduate this month. Please try to read that thread at least a little bit before posting your questions here as it is very likely your question has been asked and answered on the other thread more than once.

Good luck on whatever path you choose!

are there a lot of places to run outside in san juan area? or are the streets way too busy?

Good question, I had been wondering the same thing..but I'm ashamed ;) to admit I'm not yet at the 10 mile marker ;) but good on you.. I've seen people run in Old San Juan up and down the hills of El Morro. But beyond that I haven't seen much of it - Love to hear someone else's input too. :)

i wanted to know before i started my real search for apartments is..... are there a lot of places to run outside in san juan area? or are the streets way too busy? i usually run about 10 miles and i don't like to run in circles.... would to live by the beach be my best bet?

Yes definitely the beach is your best bet. There are a ton of runners around here. A lot of people live at Las Cumbres the first year and then realize what on earth they are doing and move to the beach the second year. That's what I did. School is 7 miles and for the most part takes 15 to 20 minutes. I leave most days at about 3 PM and study at Starbucks because traffic starts getting bad after that. If it is raining it can take up to an hour to get to school so in rainy season for sure leave early. But living at the beach is soooo worth the few times I get stuck in traffic.

Blackboard is an online education portal. That is where professors post HW assinments or handouts to download or where you take online quizes and exams.

You would register for classes on Inter Web BUT as I new student you canot register online.

I have no idea what to tell you to do because I NEVER got through to anyone 2 years ago when I called. I really think the registration has to be done in person. But this is only for new students. Your second trimester you can register online.

I got onto InterWeb but how do you know which classes are in English from Spanish?

I believe if you look to a column on the far right it says something when the classes are in English. I don't know where the column is exactly and from what I can remember if the classes are in Spanish it doesn't say anything but if they are in English it will sat that.

Thank you again!! Lol

Thank you again!! Lol

Did you see it? I have not been in there in a while.

Yeah I know it is not a for sure thing. I am taking a Basic Concepts class online right now, so hopefully they'll accept that. It's weird to tell people that I am moving down there probably/maybe/hopefully for school, but starting in August just wasn't an option for me. The current director was somewhat supportive when I talked to her. She basically told me to come down and it will "probably" get worked out. Anyway...I will come down a bit early. How far in advance do people register for classes that start in November?

My computer crashed so I am doi g this on my phone it it is quite awkward so I may leave stuff out.Registration is usually about 6 to 8 weeks before the trimester begins. The director that told you to cOme down and things will work out is leaving at the end of this mont.I have not met the new director but they are trying to go by the books on everything and I am sure the new director will be the same.I can't stress how you should not reley on a Nov start date. They are trying as many ways possible to cut enrollment Nd since that was a loophole anyway I am sure it will disappear. Like I said there were only 2 people this past Nov that did it. Just be prepared to have Nother school as a back up or to start in Aug 2013.

Oh and the fact you are taking Vlbasic concepts will not really help you except you will not be taking a full time course load in the fall. Each trimester is a set schedule so 1st trimester for the accelerated program is Basics, Pharm, Fundamentals lecture and Fundamentals lab. So you will just have the last 3 classes. The 2nd trimester is Adult Care 1 lecture and lab and Pyschosocial lecture and lab so you can't take any of those classes before you take fundamentals.

Hello Everyone,

So I am going back to the school on Thursday. I can't find the right address anymore. Does anyone have the direct address to the school?

I don't ever remember having an address for the school. It was really hard to find the first time. But if you have GPS I can email you the coordinates to Dr Placer across the street.Or you can GPS yourself to that Starbucks. It is called Starbucks Plaza Olmeldo and it is right next to school.

For those of you starting the accelerated program at La Inter this August, what have you been told in terms of registration, orientation, and anything else that needs to be done before classes start? I am getting contradictory information about when I have to be down there and I am trying to get as many similar answers on dates before I buy my ticket/leave my job for good. Thanks!
