No I'm not in Puerto Rico yet. I'm going on Sunday so I will be at the school first thing Monday morning. Do you speak spanish? I heard that the nursing program at UMET isn't completely in english (but I'm not 100% sure) or else I would've applied there too. But I'll let you know if they're better with assisting in person than over the phone when I get there.

There are pros and cons with both schools. I had a friend that started at UMET and ended up leaving. SHe started in Jan of last year and was really the only accelerated student so they kept canceling her classes because of enrollment. I think if you start in August there are usually about 8 or more people and they will not cancel classes for that number. She did have to take classes like microbiology in Spanish. I don't think there is anyone in that program at UMET that doesn't speak a least a little SPanish.

They take only two classes at a time because they are 8 weeks long. They are called bimesters. AT La Inter they are 12 weeks and called trimesters but in the STates we call 12 week sessions quarters. So my friend at UMET had the same teacher for both of her classes. And she really didn't like the teacher. So that kind of sucked. And the teacher had also taught at La Inter.

Anyway I don't want to knock it because what I know comes from her and she was not happy but I know there is a poster here that is very happy with UMET but she also does speak Spanish. The class sizes are small and they have brand new equipment. La Inter equipment in the labs is a joke.

And there are so many people that classes would never be cancelled at La Inter instead they would add another section. THis is not a good thing because it means scrambling to find a teacher and usually no class for a week or so until they find one. Get used to this. It happens. it would NEVER happen in the states but it happens in PR.

I hear from my friends there that things are getting better and the quality of instruction is getting better. So that is good. But it will be a sloooow process.

    Hi edibie,
How did it go for you today? Was it easy to find the school and the right people to talk to?
Were you able to get everything in that you needed to in one day?
    Thanks

Also ChanelCinq - thank you for all your comments on this thread, they have been very helpful for me learning about this school..

Hey, so I visited the school on Monday. I met one of my cousin's friends in Puerto Rico and she took me straight to the school and to the nursing department. From there they told me that I needed to go to the admissions office first. When I got there I was expected the phones to be ringing off the hook since I never get through when I call but not one phone rang while I was in there smh. Anyways the lady pulled my application up on the computer and once she saw that I had applied for August, she told me that they have not started admitting people fo June, July, and Aug. She said that they were still working on that current trimester and that they won't start on the other apps until May. She told me to resend my transcript in May once I have graduated with my bachelors so that I wouldn't have to take any gen eds and I could automatically enter the accelerated nursing program. So basically I couldn't get anything done because it's too early.

Edibie I would go down to the International Relations office and speak to "E" and he should be able to help you. That makes no sense. I got accepted in Jan or Feb. "E" will walk you up to the right people and take care of it.

I don't know the exact name of the office but when you walk into the main building where addmissions and financial aid and everything else is you are actually on the 3rd floor. If you go to the very bottom where the cafeteria is, the student lounge, book store, chapel (it's a Christian Uni) etc then you are on the 1st floor. The office where "E" works is next to the ROTC (Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines) office and 2 doors down from the book store (which is pointless - buy your books online).

But I am sure "E" can help you.
