Thank you so much tmp25!

All your information is really helpful.

It seems like some of the policies are changing from what they were a few years ago (when PR school feedback thread #1 first started).

I want to make sure I have everything I need that La Inter currently requires and don't miss anything..

Thanks again for taking the time and for all of your help.

Good luck to you too Evo5 when you take your trip to the school!

Thanks so much tmp25 for all your info. What are some good locations that you recommend to look for housing when I come? I remember in the earlier thread someone mentioned Caguas. But when you came to look for housing did you just drive around or did you meet with a someone and have them take you around? I'm not quite sure where to start looking but I know I prefer close to the school.

Caguas?!?! No way. That is a 1/2 hour by car IF there is no traffic. No, no, not I good idea.

I lived in Las Cumbres I the first year. There are tons of students that lived in Las Cumbres I, II, III, and IV and they are all close to school.

THen I lived in Ocean Park a block from the beach the second year. I had a way better experience the second year. I started to love the island. Living close to school felt like the suburbs. If I could do it over I would live the whole 2 years at the beach.

I agree with Worldtravelingyogi, Caguas is far. The surrounding areas that you want to look at that are an exit up or around the school are: Guaynabo, Hato Rey, and Cupey. BUT, if you want to live walking distance from the school, La Cumbre I, II, III, and IV are the places to go. This is a neighborhood of houses that people rent out to students. The school in vicinity of these neighborhoods: A 10 min walk from La Cumbre 1, 15-20 min walk La Cumbre 2, 20 min walk La Cumbre 3/4) Rent ranges from $400-$800. Most of the owners make you sign a 1 year rental agreement. The houses that are available fill up quickly, July is when most of the rental agreements are up. (at least thats when mine is up) So, 2 weeks prior to school starting is a good time to come down and look for a place to live. I found mine within 4 days within the first week of school (came to PR without a place. My roommate and I stayed with one of my friends/classmate while we looked)

You don't need anyone to go around with you to find a place. I only know one person who had help from a company.

No problem!! I had help when I started looking into the school so I just want to pay it back.

As long as you send/bring transcripts, course description sheet, and ID, SSN...you will be fine (that is the easiest part). The hard part is on the school sending you all your paperwork in a timely manner. A few things you will begin to learn here is to stay on top of your stuff, make copies of all paperwork given to you (bc things get lost), do EVERYTHING in person, and have lots of patience. Everyone gets in to the school and as long as you have a 2.5 GPA, you will get into the nursing program. So no worries! :-)

The question I have is once you've gone to this school and received your BSN. I know that you can become a ARNP, however, what about a CRNA?

I know that their sciences are sometimes integrated into the nursing program, so for those CRNA programs which require the BIOs, A&P 1 and 2, arent you out of luck ?

Hello everyone, I am so happy I discovered this thread... I am seriously thinking to attend to La Inter on the next semester. I applied during the winter session and I just received a letter asking for my transcripts , which I will be mailing back next week; however I would like to know if someone can help me finding out how can I get the police certificate of "buena conducta" from Puerto Rico when one lives in the main land . To be specific California. Also, can someone tell how much is the whole BSN program or at least the price per credit unit. Has anyone have troubles trying to take the Nclex at the mainland ? Someone from California please!!!

Can you tell me if I take the ASN in inter can I still be able to take the test in California?

All answer will be truly appreciate it.. Thank you all in advance!

Some programs accept the integrated sciences and some don't. Easy fix, just take the extra classes you need. Will be a pain and repeat the integrated science info but I think it's worth it if your goal is to get a graduate degree.

That is true. If you are planning to get a graduate degree you would need the sciences. For the CA BON people had the school fill out forms stating the sciences are integrated. Not all states needed that but CA did.

But yeah if you are planning on getting a Masters you will need the science pre-reqs. We had students that decided to go to med school while in nursing school so they started taking some pre-reqs like chemistry to get those out of the way.

La Inter offers all the general prereqs like English, History, Math, etc in English for the people that do not have a Bachelors. The school offers degrees in English in Nursing, Psychology, and Business so they offer all the gen ed classes in English. However chemistry was an elective for people in the sciences and it was in Spanish. But the text books and exams are in English so people with NO Spanish took the classes and still got A grades.

Omg! Thank you very much for you response! That alleviates my anxiety of thinking of not being able to obtain my RN license after I am done with the program in La inter.

Do you know if the grads applied to the CA BON as foreign nurses? Thank you again! :-)
