There are two english nursing programs in PR: Universidad Metropolitana ( which I go too) and La InterAmerican Metropolitan Campus (Which most of the people here attend)...
The nick name is La Inter but the name of the school is Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico, Recinto Metropolitano (in Spanish) or InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico, Metro Campus (in English).

I just want to clarify because people would get very confused if they tried to look up La InterAmerican Metropolitan Campus as it doesn't exist.

Calijen, you might want to post that on the Nursing Association Facebook page if you are at La Inter. There are a lot of people on there who might be able to help.

Hi guys! I have stumbled accross this thread in search of something else. BUT I AM SO GLAD I DID! So I applied on Monday and have been communicating with "E" through email. He only ever answers one of my questions each time I email him...:-/ BUT I was wondering if anyone knew about a June start date? He told me I could start in Summer I. Also does anyone have more info on La Cumbre.

Hehe, I ran into E today and he was going on about some new students. You were probably one of them.

If you already have a Bachelors there would not be a June start date. You can only take prereqs in the summer unless you have already completed at least 2 trimesters there are no beginning nursing classes in the summer.

I have to tell you to search the thread about La Cumbre. I have posted a ton of information about it here several times and others have to so it's all current you just have to look for it.

One student was looking for nursing schools for next year in October. On October 14, 2011 he found this thread and spent 3 days reading every single post. He then applied and started on Nov 1. I met him October 31st and he was so informed I think he only had one question for me.

Just read the thread and if you have SPECIFIC questions about things that have not already been posted people in here will answer them. I know a lot of students I go to school with unsubscribed because they were sick of repeating the same thing over and over. Plus your question is too general.

I am happy to help in here but you have to read first. THis goes to everyone who asks questions that have been answered over a dozen times. And if you start in Jan or Feb of 2010 which is when I started everything from then on is current to the school right now. Nothing has changed except I don't if it was ever mentioned that you need both scrubs and a uniform. Both are purchased here. That was something new for our class but it is so minor.

OK I will stop rambling now.

Thanks Yogi! I was just wondering if there was more info than what I have read. I went through these posts and read them maybe 2-3 times on some pages. Not sure if I overlooked anything. It could be very possible that I did. Though, I do realize my question was quite vague. I was looking for contact info. Unless La Cumbre is not like apartment complexes in the states :/

Okay "E" told me I could start in June. When I asked him if the nursing classes were availabe in June he completely ignored the question. I wouldn't want to move and take classes for nothing.

    I do have a Bachelor's btw.

Sorry hihopes for being so harsh. No it is not an appartment complex. There are 4 gated communities called Las Cumbres and they are numbered 1, 2, 3, and 4. La Cumbre I is closest to school. But they are all close. It is basically different duplexes or quadplexes or houses or whatever. Each property is individualy owned.

To be honest I regret that I lived near the school the first year. I live in Ocean Park now one block from the beach and I wonder why I didn't do that the first year. So many people on this board mentioned traffic but the longest it took me was 40 minutes when it was prooring rain. Usually it is 14 or 15 minutes. If I leave at 5 PM traffic may take me 25 minutes. But it is really not a big deal. Some people try to live near school so they don't have to buy a car. Everyone I know without a car regrets that. You are really stuck near school because the trolley doesn't run from the school to the train station so you can't go any where on Sundays.

I lived in La Cumbre but I had a car. And I regret now I didn't move by the beach the first year.

E doesn't really know about the nursing dept per se. He is the main contact for ALL international students (which includes those of us from the states) but he doesn't really know about the individual programs. There are no beginning nursing classes in the summer so if you have a Bachelors your options are to start August 1 or Nov 1 and that is it.

So work for 2 more months so you have some extra money. ;-)

You may have a super hard time getting anyone in nursing right now because the dept is going through a transition. The assistant director is stepping down just to teach and they are looking for her replacement. This is a very good thing. It's just you may have even more issues than normal getting someone on the phone.

Only Pediatrics is available in June and you won't be able to take it without completing the other nursing courses in the sequence. You may b able to take general ed classes over the summer.

OH Thank you for all the info. I didn't think you were being harsh at all.

I was trying to get out of shipping my car...Maybe I can get a cheap little lemonor something and drive that around. I would imagine it may be cheaper than shipping my car twice huh?

I am not sure if you would know this or not...But, my application says I am applying for the June start date. Sice I am applying for the Nursing program would they automatically send me an acceptance(granted I am accepted) for the Fall semester?

SO I know someone who shipped his car. It was a Scion xB maybe from 2006?? I have a 2008 Scion xB I bought here and I know his is older. He paid 4,000 to ship it BUT it will only cost 800 to ship back. It is all the import fees that you pay shipping it to the island. To me I thought it was silly but I'll tell you A LOT of people, I mean A LOT of people have problems with cheap cars. I have so much piece of mind that mine will be on warranty the whole time I own it. Almost everyone I know had some major car issues. One friend had to replace the clutch and the engine. He ended up selling it for what he paid after he put 5,000 into it. Another friend bought a Honda Accord from an older dealer (I mean dealers that specialize in older cars) and a couple weeks later the brakes went out and she slammed into the car in front of her and her car is now an accordian. And all kinds of other stuff. People are embarrassed that they bought a lemon so people stop sharing their horror stories of cars.

So my suggestion would be to finance a newer car. Yeah it is way more money but it will be cheaper in the end. Or ship your car out but again it's not cheap. Obviously not all cars are lemons but people drive their cars to the ground here and only sell them when they have to so there is a very good chance you are getting a lemon.
