IUPUI (& other) Accelerated BSN (programs) Spring 2010

by anomaly

I've been posting under the Fall 2009 thread, and living vicariously (like previous posters) through the Ivy Tech threads (400+ and 900+ posts!).

I just keep wondering if there's anyone else out there who is waiting to hear back about the program at IUPUI, or any of the other accelerated BSN programs in the area--Marian University or Indiana Wesleyan University (or any program in Indiana?!).

If there is anyone out there who is waiting to hear about starting in the spring of 2010, it's nice to meet you. I just wanted to open this thread so we could share in the agony and excitement involved in waiting and share any pertinent or random information we might come across.

Oh, and Good Luck!

Hello! I have looked into Marian University's program, and met with one of their admissions counselors. It seems like a good program, the online part looks pretty cool. It is more expensive than some other programs, but I really just want to get in somewhere. I think I am going to apply there for their May (?) start.

I haven't seriously looked into Marian University's program. I have looked at their website a few times, and I have met someone who is in their traditional program and another person who was starting their online program this Fall.

What have they told you with regard to the courses they list as pre-requisite general education requirements? I have a previous degree, but it looks like I would need 6 additional courses for their program that are not required (specifically) for any of the other programs I am considering. If they're only available at their school, that's just more $$$ when their program is already pretty pricey.

I really can't gauge the quality of their programs, facility, faculty, or affiliations at all.

What else have you found out about the program?

Are you taking pre-requisites right now? Will you be taking some in the Spring?

I saw you on this thread: http://allnurses.com/indiana-nurses/...ml#post3703366

The posters seem to imply that Marian is definitely a good school to apply to if you're adamant about beginning as soon as possible, and they seem to indicate that it is a good program, even though it is a bit expensive.

If you apply to start in May, how soon will you know whether you've been accepted? Have you read where some people went in to speak with someone and declared their intent to attend, and were told a spot would be held for them?

When I went to visit with them, it did seem like they had a little lengthy list of pre-reqs, but they were really trying to get me on a plan to get them all done. I figure, I can go to Ivy Tech to finish many if not all of them and have it be cheaper, but then get in quicker. If I have to do two or three for another program and have a less of a chance to get it, I guess I'll take spending a little extra cash and the almost guaranteed acceptance.

As far as the quality of the school, I know that this is a new program, but the school always has had a great reputation. I had some friends that went through the traditional program, and they loved it. Of course, they said it was really challenging, but who would want an easy program when you have to go into the craziness of the RN world when you graduate???

I believe that if you apply for the May class, you are generally notified within a few weeks after the deadline? At least, that's what I would guess it is.

It does seem a little expensive, and I have to take some pre-req's, but I figure if I can get in there 6-9 months before I would start another program, I would make that money up (plus more, probably) in my first 6-9 months of employment after I graduate. Seems like a wash, if not a positive gain, after all is considered.

I just wanted to let anyone else who might be waiting know that I received my letter of admission to IUPUI/IUSON today!

I was so excited when I opened the mail box. We weren't supposed to hear back until the last week of November at the earliest. What a pleasant surprise!

Good luck to anyone else out there still waiting to hear back. Did anyone else hear back from IUPUI/IUSON?

When I went to see a program advisor in August they told me that approximately 125 people had applied for the Fall and between 30 and 40 were accepted, but I'm not sure how many applied for the spring.

Thanks for the reply!..sounds scary..I currently go to BSU and will graduate in May with my 1st degree. Im taking the anat, micro and physio pre-reqs and doing well in them, but i expect my overall GPA will be around a 2.9ish when I graduate, probably not competitive enough right?? If you don't mind me asking, what was your GPA when you got accepted??
