This is a good discussion that could be very useful to prospective students -- but it's not a good idea to mention specific people by name. Would you want people talking about you by name on a public website?
Anyway ... as to the central issue ... It can make a difference as to whether or not your school is accredited, as the OP has found out. However, if a school is not accredited, it is impossible to tell what will happen in the future. Some schools apply for accreditation fail to meet the requirements. Others change the minds and stop pursuing accreditation. Other schools go on to get accreditation after being in business for a couple of years.
You never know whether they will earn accreditation or not until they actually go through the process. Until that time, attending such a school is a bit of a gamble.
